7 sins from Gandhi’s view!

Image
7 sins from Gandhi’s view!!!! It was a time before Independence. Gandhiji was in a meeting related to the salt satyagraha. Once a boy was curious to ask a question to Gandhiji and he was waiting outside the meeting hall so that he can meet Gandhiji once he comes out.  It took too late to end the meeting, but still that boy waited outside patiently. Gandhiji who noticed the boy waiting for a long time came directly to him as soon as the meeting ended and asked “What do you want son? “. That boy asked Gandhiji “Sir, what are called sins?” Gandhiji replied “According to me there are seven sins in total.  They are ·        Politics without policies  ·        Business without honesty ·        Education without discipline  ·        Disrespecting the teacher  ·        Pleasure without conscience  · ...

Do we really need to consume fruits before food to derive their full benefits ?

Image
While consumption of fruits is generally good for our health, it is suggested nowadays to eat fruits before food to derive their benefits rather than after food which would be harmful. Why?      It is a myth that fruits should be taken before food, for full benefit, and also that it is dangerous because they get fermented when taken along with other food. This is true if we take contaminated rotten fruit, which may contain harmful bacteria.      Every research has proved beyond doubt that all the food we take is converted to simple amino acids, glucose, and fatty acids, and then only they get absorbed in the intestine. The moment food enters the mouth during chewing, the carbohydrate undergoes partial splitting ( digestion ) by an enzyme called Ptyalin. Partially digested carbohydrates, protein and fats enter the stomach where they are digested after a proper churning by the enzymes, Pepsin ,diastase, and hydrochloric acid, which further...

Truth behind why we forget our dreams!

Image
Why do some dreams remain in our memory for a long time while some vanish from our memory even while waking from sleep and we are not able to recollect however hard we try?      Dreams occur during a stage of sleep known as REM (rapid eye movement ) sleep, also known as paradoxical sleep. It is paradoxical in the sense that although we are sleeping, the brain is actively involved in creating a visual experience called dream, and its metabolic activity is equivalent to that in the awake state.      Most of the dreams are stored in the brain as a learning experience that we cannot demonstrate or remember. It is for the safety and well being of the person who has a dream that he/she doesn't remember them since most of the dreams that we usually experience are bizarre and often frightful. That is why during the next stage of sleep ie. slow wave sleep (SWS), these dreams get washed off and the person gets up not remembering anything at all....

Why do people have red eyes in flash photographs?

Image
Answer 1: Red eye reflex is seen in some flash photographs as flash photographs are taken in dull light conditions. The pupils of the subject are dilated as the ambient light is dull and the subject is looking straight at the camera. The light from the flash enters the eye through the pupil and is reflected out.      This reflected light is red in colour as the retina being highly vascular is red in colour and is what is seen as the red reflex of flash photography. This can be avoided by the subject not looking directly into the camera . A pre-flash strobe front the camera flash will cause the pupil to contract and the red eye reflex will not be seen. This is now available in most modern cameras as ‘red eye reduction’ feature.      Red eye reflex is seen more in children as they naturally have larger pupils - certain animals have a highly reflective surface under the retina giving them greater red eye reflex, that is why red eye reflex is...

How does a foetus breathe inside the mother's womb?

Image
A foetus does not breathe inside its mother's womb. The first cry after birth is the first attempt of the baby to breathe. We breathe to take in oxygen.      Oxygen is very much essential for the functioning of our body. The foetus receives oxygenated blood directly from the mother through the umbilical cord. (The umbilical cord connects the foetus with the placenta of the uterus of the mother).      Hence, the necessity to breathe does not arise. But, after birth, the umbilical cord is severed and the baby is forced to take in the atmospheric air for its survival. The lungs start functioning only after birth. The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place in the alveoli of the lungs and the baby starts t...

If nails are dead tissue, how are they able to grow?

Image
If nails are dead tissue, how are they able to grow?                                                              Nail is not made up of dead tissue. A Nail has a nail bed, and root from which it grows. It contains a thick keratin protein, which is equivalent to animal nails, or horns is a part of a living tissue, like bone internally.        It grows from its root, like a hair grows from root. Cutting the hair is painless, but v/e do not call it dead tissue. It is the outgrowth of the living nail bed, which is meant to protect the soft tip of the finger from the injury, which we touch.      Patients with-removed nail, subject themselves to severe injury, since a sense of deep sensation is passed by the nail to the underlying nervous tissue, called Pacinian corpuscles and free nerve endings und...

Reason behind watery eyes while consuming spicy food

Image
Why are tears produced in our eyes when we eat something which Is spicy or spicy over our limits?      When we eat food the sensory nerve endings on our tongue are stimulated.       Anterior two thirds of the tongue gets its sensory supply from the trigemminal nerve. This nerve also serves as the sensory nerve to the surface of the eye and face. When we eat very spicy food the sensory nerve endings on the tongue are irritated and an overload of noxious stimulus is carried by the trigemminal nerve.       The nervous system perceives this overload of noxious stimulus as being received from all the areas i.e tongue, eye and face and sets in motion a reflex reaction which is not just limited to the tongue or mouth but also to the eye and face. This reflex reaction results in increase in tear secretion and overflow of tears as well as sweating over the face.                ...

Why do doctors prescribe some medicines to be taken before and some after food?

Image
When we take a medication, it is absorbed from various parts of our gut - some get absorbed in the stomach, some pass through the stomach into the intestines and get absorbed there. The most important reason for timing a medication that is taken orally is to maximize its absorption so that more of the medication goes through the stomach into the blood.       Many medicines get absorbed better when food is not present and hence are taken on an empty stomach (an example is the hormone thyroxine which must be taken first thing in the morning). A few actually get absorbed better when food is present - an example of this is the antibiotic azithromycin.      Some drugs are taken specifically with or after food because this may reduce the side effects of the drug on the stomach. For example pain medications and certain antibiotics all can irritate the lining of the stomach and therefore are best taken with or aft...

How does a chameleon change its colour?

Image
The ability to change its colour is one of the foremost characteristic features of chameleon. This colour change is due certain properties of special, pigment containing cells called chromatophore cells in the three skin layers found below the outer skin layers. The cells of the uppermost layer next to superficial transparent skin are called xanthophores .These cells are yellow pigmented cells. The granules of pigment within these chromatophore cells can selectively reflect and absorb certain wavelengths of light. These cells are responsible for the yellow and  red pigmentations. The next is a light scattering layer and is called iridophores. The platelets here can reflect blue lights. The cell of the deepest layer are called melanophores, which contain  black pigments. The chameleons hormones cause the granules of melanin  present in these cells to be either distributed widely throughout the cell or to  be gathered together into one small lump near the center...

Australia is the only continent on the air without an active volcano.

Image
In our solar system the volcanoes are very interesting fact. Because of that we get on heat energy and many minerals comes out from the core of the earth. The volcanoes are two types in nature that is active volcano and dormant volcano. Australia is the only continent on the air without an active volcano.
